iPhone 3.0 – at&t – No MMS – June 2009
Jun 20th
The new iPhone OS3.0 is here. It is completely useless upon its initial release. It was supposed to bring MMS support. Every other feature, ie. clipboard and search has been available via Cydia for a looooong time now, but the MMS was blocked by at&t. Now with the new OS3.0 here at&t still does not support MMS. This is the only substantial reason to upgrade. 3.0 has not been jailborken yet so now users do not have theming features, which pretty much leaves millions of iPhone users very angry. Its simply incredible the service provided by at&t. 3G is fast, but there is never reception. I mean there is NEVER reception. Sure if your standing in one place youll get reception, but when I drive through town and pass Main Street, and Central Drive bam the signal goes to Zero. and then when I pass Main Street and Shore Road, bam signal goes to zero; call dropped. Reception in Plandome, lol never had it; its simply incredible. Now since at&t is the only official provider of iPhone service in the US, why would Apple issue and update for features that are not even supported by the only official provider? Its counter intuitive, and a guaranteed way to make customers unhappy, or further unhappy with the service provided by at&t. This only leads more and more people to look into unlocking there phone to work with other providers to bypass the monopoly at&t has on the iPhone. Wouldn’t at&t say to Apple, waiiiiit we are not ready for the update!! There is no coordination behind the scenes. The same thing applies to the 3G rollout. Why would at&t sell a phone claiming that the phone is twice as fast, when the service provider cannot provide adequate reception. The claim should be the iPhone 3G is twice as fast, when you can get a signal.
Windows Who? Bloated – Complex – Ohh and You Have to Pay for it?
Apr 13th
Everyone is talking about Windows nowadays. Why use it? Since the dawn of the modern desktop computer Microsoft has dominated relentlessly. In more recent years Apple has emerged as a major competitor, with their niche being people who want simplicity! As Linux becomes increasingly user friendly, and easy to install the demise of Microsoft’s Windows is appearing closer and closer.
Its no secret that Windows Vista wasn’t the resounding success that Microsoft hoped for. While Microsoft managed to push decent sales, it failed to surpass Windows XP’s success and received a largely critical reception from the press. Microsoft is taking the situation seriously, and is pushing aggressively to replace Vista, with Windows 7 in 2010, hoping for better luck. Apple is great, their software is great, their hardware is great, but you have to pay for it. Linux, especially Ubuntu is quickly becoming a major competitor in the computer world. Dell has rapidly adopted the operating system because of its stability, lack of viruses and spyware, and other benefits. The most important benefit is that its completely free. Why would Dell want to purchase licenses from Microsoft, and then have to charge the consumer? They can simply use Ubuntu, charge the consumer a little bit less, make the consumer more happy and still make their incredible profits. Linux the the future. It takes about 30 minutes to completely setup up a brand new webserver. Viruses, and spyware are basically not effective against all Linux distributions, so I ask the question again, why use Microsoft Windows?
iPhone Battery Life Complaints
Mar 3rd
If your iPhone battery life is poor, your phone is broken. Bring it in the Apple for an exchange. My iPhone will literally go for three days without having to re-charge it. I have my screen brightness set all the way down, I can report the best battery life of any cellphone I have ever owned. I have wifi on all the time. I have bluetooth off. I use all the features all the time, and can report no negatives on any aspect of the phone.
iPhone iPod Touch Battery Life Extensions
Feb 14th
The easiest way to make your iPhone or iPod Touch last longer is to substantially decrease the brightness of the screen. I have observed upwards of a 50% reduction in battery life when the device is set to maximum brightness, and a substantial increase in battery life when the brightness is dramatically reduced. Otherwise this device simply rocks. I love the instant transition between WiFi and the EDGE wireless network. This provides a seamless internet connection, allowing you to check your email, and access the internet anywhere where coverage is available. One major software issue is the lack of a spam filter directly on the iPhone. Also I have experienced trouble playing quicktime files, although the integrated YouTube feature is quite impressive. Also, an easy way should be provided for users to rip their DVDs to iTunes, and then sync them to their device; this feature should obviously be added to the iTunes software directly. Overall if you don’t care about your credit balance, or somehow you miraculously have money in your life I officially declare the iPhone a killer device that consolidates many features into one single unit. Apple rocks, although since quality is proportional to cost, all Apple products are relatively costly.
