Fedora 7 Instead of Fedora 8 – Cube Panel

The Cube Panel hosting suite has an installation candidate for a Fedora 7 operating system. Because of this I am choosing Fedora 7 instead of Fedora 8. I have used Fedora 8, and uploaded a VDI VirtualBox file to http://www.virtlinux.com, and can report a good experience. I also have a good opinion of Fedora 7, which I use for a permanent mail server on another system. Cube Panel is available in a Free Lite Version: http://www.cubepanel.com/download/index.htm

VirtualBox VDI Import Video Tutorial

A VDI image is cross platform compatible. The downloading of one file can implement a complete OS solution relatively quickly, which is a substantial logistical improvement as compared to a standard OS installation. This industry is referred to as Virtualization. VirtualBox Software runs on Windows, Linux, and is progressing on the MAC front. For more information, and to download VirtualBox visit: http://www.virtualbox.org To download VDI images with the most popular Linux Distributions pre-installed visit: VirtLinux The following video is a how-to on importing a VDI OS image into a VirtualBox Guest Operating System.

Mandriva Automatic VirtualBox Guest Additions

The instant transfer of the cursor between the host environment and the guest is a crucial component of a seamless guest operating system. Mandriva apparently comes pre-installed with VirtualBox compatible code, as the behavior of the mouse is consistent with that of a successfully installed VirtualBox guest additions package. I have a high opinion of Mandriva. The installation process is unique, simple, intuitive, and fast. The size of the OS is relatively small considering it utilizes a KDE desktop. Three thumbs up :) I added a Mandriva VirtualBox VDI to those available on VirtLinux.com

ReactOS VDI Tinkering

I did a quick installation of ReactOS in a VirtualBOX VDI to play around a little. While the Guest Additions could not achieve a successful installation, Firefox works just fine allowing internet access. After a couple of automated driver installations to accommodate the simulated VirtualBox hardware, ReactOS has a certain degree of stable functionality. While there is a long road ahead for the development of this operating system, it appears that a stable foundation is emerging.
