VirtualBox Manager – Whats Next?

There is a small bug on the delete hosts page that will be fixed. I’m going to keep the max number of hosts, at this time, to 7 to support smaller screens without having to rewrite the code to support multiple pages of hosts. I’m going to add, at mininum, an additional class where I want to allow users to connect to the virtual machine itself to run commands. I will configure the virtual machine menu the same way as the host control menu. VirtualBox Manager will scan the virtual machine and display buttons with relevant servers that are running. For example if the machine has apache, sendmail, and mysql it will detect them and display a button for each service. The user can then start, stop, or reset the service.

I should have this update implemented in the next couple of days. I will also set a toggle in the main menu to enable a main application password required before connecting to any host. Although I may reserve this feature for the enterprise level application.

Verizion – Side by Side with at&t Coverage Map

Will Nasty Ad Campaign against AT&T Do Verizon Any Good?

I like this map. It really shows how poor at&t’s coverage is. I had at&t for a long time, and I would get dropped calls on my iPhone. I would call at&t all the time and the rep would say that its not in your contract that at&t guarantees service. So basically I had bad service, would get 10 dropped calls per day, and at&t says the service is fine. They would continuously point to the coverage map saying my area has full service. How do they explain the dropped calls? At&t would say they don’t guarantee service.

This map speaks for the nation. And even the local coverage is the same. I have no problem with a company not supporting particular areas. But at&t would continuously point to the local coverage map of my area, and say I have full coverage. The map is not correct. I talk more about my local map in a previous post.

Jiglu Discontinues Service

A wonderful autotagging addon to any website was Jiglu. They would automatically tag popular keywords and other relevant content that is on your site, and other sites in the Jiglu network. Jiglu has discontinued this service to pursue, what appears to be, a paid service. For a long time now Jigu has gone through some service changes; they first has a popup that would come from the side of the screen, recently they had a popup that would come from the center of the screen. They also had statistics that were rather informative. The most recent version linked in other websites with similar content, that would also bring in visitors from other sites to yours. We will miss your free service Jiglu, as your website matures and a pricing structure emerges you will definitely have customers.

Nagios Virtual Server Monitoring in 15 Minutes – Intro

Nagios allows you to graphically monitor your virtual servers from a single web page. No longer will you have to load each individual website or web service in order to verify consistent operation. Nagios can be downloaded directly from their website at: http://www.nagios.com On the Nagios homepage is a link to a 15 minute tutorial, which is relatively straight forward, and works like a charm. I recommend Ubuntu JeOS for your virtual OS specifically because the kernel works flawlessly with the host operating system.
